This index was recorded by the State Commission on Regulating the Public Services and Economic Competition
Together with the pre-New Year fuss, the boom in the trade centers has also come to an end. These days, the experts of the State Commission on Regulating the Public Services and Economic Competition were particularly vigilant in order to prevent unfair competition and unjustified price increases. According to them, there were no violations throughout the holidays. Compared with the same period of the last year, the Commission recorded a decline in prices for some goods, which are periodically monitored. Attempts of unauthorized increase in prices or unfair competition are most likely during the holidays. And in those days the State Commission on Regulating the Public Services and Economic Competition increased the number of raids. "During the holidays, we noticed a rise in prices for alcoholic beverages. However, the studies testified that even in this case there were no violationseither", said Head of the Department of Economic Competition Protection of the State Commission on Regulating the Public Services and Economic Competition, Sergey Grigoryan. According to the Commission's monitoring, compared with the same period of the last year, we are on the vantage point. Prices for some products declined during 2015. "Overall, we have subjected to monitoring 73 kinds of products: the prices for 9 of them have remained unchanged, for 24 have increased, and for 40 decreased", said Mr. Grigoryan. Almost unchanged has remained the price for bread and bakery products, milk and dairy products of local production. Onion has become cheaper by 41%, buckwheat – by 28%, Cheddar cheese – by 20%, and sugar – by 16%. The prices for petrol, eggs, vegetable oil, and macaronis have also reduced. The price for pork has reduced by 300 AMD, and for vodka - increased by 19%. Compared with the same period of the last year, the prices for some types of sausages, butter, non-alcoholic drinks, as well as liquefied natural gas have increased. In general, according to the monitoring of 73 types of goods, the prices have decreased by 3%, compared with the same period of the last year. According to the Chief Department, the Commission has examined the grounds for both the decrease and increase in prices. "In most cases, the decrease in prices was caused by the depreciation of the U.S. dollar by almost 16%. The rise in prices for imported goods was caused by the increase in prices for them in Armenia, and the growth of prices for some local goods – by the rise in price for the raw materials used. The Commission examined them in detail. No violations were fixed", said Mr. Grigoryan. Over the past year, cases of unfair competition were also fixed. However, the violations did not relate the prices. According to our interlocutor, the cases of unfair competition related mainly to the circulation of counterfeit products and misleading discounts. In such cases, the Commission hopes for the promotion and activity of the population. By the way, among the innovations of 2015, the Commission's use of new mechanisms for cooperation with the society can be noted. "We place at the official website of the Commission and its Facebook page the results of our monitoring of the prices for 20 consumer goods in 10 large stores in Stepanaker. The information is open and accessible to everybody, which will enable consumers to choose between the shops and to save money", said Mr. Grigoryan. In the presented tables, the increase in prices for goods is marked in red, and the decrease over the same period – in green. According to the Commission members, the effectiveness of this initiative depends mainly on how actively the consumers use them.
