ARMENIA SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SURPLUS OF THE NKR-GENERATED ELECTRICITY

During a joint meeting of representatives of the Governments of the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan stated that Armenia should take advantage of the intensive development of the NKR, as in the energy sphere the NKR is not only self-sufficient, but has also a surplus.

"We can move this surplus from the NKR economy to the Republic of Armenia", said Karen Karapetyan, according to whom, the energy field of Armenia and the NKR should become common.

NKR Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan noted as remarkable the structural changes in the industrial production. According to him, all this resulted from the recent years' policy of the NKR authorities to base on the internal resources, to encourage the exporting industries, to ensure food security and energy independence.

"While in 2006, 51.7% of the industrial production made the mining industry, 14.8% - the energy sphere, and 33.5% - the processing industry, then in 2015, 24.2% of the industrial production made the mining industry, 34.3% - the energy sphere, and 40.1% - the processing industry", he said.

According to the NKR Prime Minister, since 2008, the Republic has implemented a program for the construction of small hydropower plants. "13 small hydroelectric power plants have already been put into operation, leading to the increase in the own electricity production, which amounted to 75% (222.3 kW / h) in 2015.
